Another riveting page turner by the master Debra Webb.I just finished last night and I m still mulling it all over I have to say that one characters fate as left me feeling some kind of wayInteresting characters, an extremely dark and twisted plot with so many bad guys Conspiracy, political chicanery and murderso much murder And when pasts begin to be unearthed, well let s say the present is truly not what it seems All this while Detective Devlin deals with her daughter and maneuvering Another riveting page turner by the master Debra Webb.I just finished last night and I m still mulling it all over I have to say that one characters fate as left me feeling some kind of wayInteresting characters, an extremely dark and twisted plot with so many bad guys Conspiracy, political chicanery and murderso much murder And when pasts begin to be unearthed, well let s say the present is truly not what it seems All this while Detective Devlin deals with her daughter and maneuvering being divorced and a cop I always love this authors strong women characters Thanks so much for the opportunity to read early This author always takes me on a wild journey I m looking forward to what s next for Detectives Falco Devlin Drama and DangerI enjoy a good detective drama and thriller every now and then, so I was drawn to this book when I saw it at one of my favorite book review sites The book pulls you in from the very first, very dramatic scene where our female lead is in grave danger The author wrote it brilliantly, from the tight perspective of the heroine as she is facing down a bad guy and even losing her grip on consciousness Not an easy thing to convey well, that s for certain This book had the fast pace Drama and DangerI enjoy a good detective drama and thriller every now and then, so I was drawn to this book when I saw it at one of my favorite book review sites The book pulls you in from the very first, very dramatic scene where our female lead is in grave danger The author wrote it brilliantly, from the tight perspective of the heroine as she is facing down a bad guy and even losing her grip on consciousness Not an easy thing to convey well, that s for certain This book had the fast pace that you want in a thriller, and there are bad guys, dangerous situations, and twists and turns aplenty to keep you turning the pages Things are not always what they seem, making the ultimate figure it out scenes and subsequent answers true revelations at times The only thing I didn t really like and this may be just me is the subplot about the ex husband and daughter I just like my detective stories and thrillers to be cleaner, just the facts ma am I don t necessarily want or need to know about the family dynamics of a detective unless it directly relates to the story, which I didn t feel like it did here I also thought that the pace required for a thriller dragged when the story veered into the personal subplot All in all, though, I found this book up quite a ride I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.My book blog In this book, as in every city across America, the wealthy and the politically connected get away with stuff that no one else could So unweaving the web of lies and coverups was the best part of this book Devlin and Falco are new partners, but learn to work together well quite quickly Not all of the turns the case takes are believable, as Devlin and her family friends is personally connected to too much of the case I grew bored with Devlin s angst about her teenage daughter, she seemed irr In this book, as in every city across America, the wealthy and the politically connected get away with stuff that no one else could So unweaving the web of lies and coverups was the best part of this book Devlin and Falco are new partners, but learn to work together well quite quickly Not all of the turns the case takes are believable, as Devlin and her family friends is personally connected to too much of the case I grew bored with Devlin s angst about her teenage daughter, she seemed irrational where her ex husband was concerned I have my own teenage daughters, I don t want to read about someone else s bratty one The author tried to give Falco some mysterious sad backstory, but it was vague and uninteresting.I might have rated this a little higher had it not been for Devlin s actions at the end, I find it hard to believe any honest detective would act as she did
